In Kanata

What the work looks like in Kanata

Kanata’s established neighbourhoods have many long-time owners downsizing, which means basements and garages holding decades of furniture, tools and boxes. We separate what can be donated or recycled from what has to be disposed of.

Businesses call us too: old desks, chairs, filing cabinets and e-waste after an office move or consolidation. Commercial junk cannot go to Trail Road anymore, so it goes to a private licensed facility.

Beaverbrook, Kanata’s original neighbourhood, dates from the mid-1960s, and much of Katimavik-Hazeldean followed in the 1970s and 80s. More about Kanata

Typical projects

  • Downsizing and estate cleanouts
  • Garage and basement clear-outs
  • Office furniture and e-waste after a move
  • Hot tubs and old playsets from back yards

Permits & paperwork

Before work starts in Kanata

Junk removal needs no permit. If a bin has to go on the street rather than your driveway, the City requires a temporary encroachment permit, so we load to our trucks or keep bins on private property.

Pre-1990 homes in Beaverbrook and Katimavik need a hazardous materials survey before the quote is final. Kanata North commercial strip-outs follow the building owner’s designated substances report.

Disposal

Torn out. Hauled out.

Every job ends ready for the next trade. Here is where the debris goes.

Usable furniture is set aside for donation when you ask; metal, appliances and electronics go to recycling; and the rest goes to a licensed sorting facility. Paint, fuel, propane and chemicals go to the City’s household hazardous waste events instead.

On larger jobs, a roll-off bin from a licensed bin company sits on your property, and the bin company hauls it away and handles the tipping at its own facility.

On smaller jobs our crew loads our own trucks and hauls to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre at 106 Westhunt Drive in Carp, which sorts mixed construction and demolition debris for recycling and accepts commercial loads.

Kanata is a short drive from the Carp Road corridor, so most loads go straight to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre, and commercial jobs get a weigh ticket for every load.

What’s included

  • Price from your photos, confirmed on site before anything is lifted
  • All loading by our crew, from basement, attic, garage or back yard
  • Donation, recycling and sorting instead of straight-to-landfill
  • Sweep-up of the area we cleared

What goes elsewhere

  • Hazardous waste: paint, propane tanks, fuel, oil, chemicals and pesticides. These go to the City’s household hazardous waste depot
  • Anything suspected to contain asbestos, such as vermiculite insulation, old pipe wrap or 9×9 floor tiles
  • Medical waste and ammunition
