What the work looks like in Westboro
On Westboro’s narrow lots, concrete work happens close to the house, the neighbour’s foundation and the sidewalk. We break out by hand near foundations, protect the neighbour’s side and keep the sidewalk swept through the job. Ontario One Call locates come first.
Many jobs here follow a garage or addition coming down: the structure is gone and the slab has to go before the builder starts. With no room for a bin on most lots, broken concrete is loaded straight to our trucks and kept clean for aggregate recycling.
Much of Westboro’s housing stock is pre-war and post-war single-family homes, many with plaster walls, older heating systems and decades of renovations layered on top. More about Westboro

Before work starts in Westboro
Breaking out a patio, walkway, slab or driveway does not usually need a demolition permit, but it does need Ontario One Call locates before any ground work. We request them, and they take about five business days. Private lines, such as a feed to a garage, are not located by One Call, so tell us where they run.
Some inner-urban addresses fall inside the City’s Demolition Control area, which applies when a dwelling unit is removed and no replacement building permit has been issued. The demolition permit then costs $1,170 instead of $117 (2026 fee schedule).
Any building from before 1990 gets a hazardous materials survey first. If it finds asbestos or other designated substances, abatement is referred to licensed specialists, and our crew starts after the clearance letter.
Disposal
Torn out. Hauled out.
Every job ends ready for the next trade. Here is where the debris goes.
Clean concrete, brick and asphalt are kept separate from soil and garbage so they can go to aggregate recycling, where they are crushed for reuse. Rebar and mesh are cut out for scrap.
On larger jobs, a roll-off bin from a licensed bin company sits on your property, and the bin company hauls it away and handles the tipping at its own facility.
On smaller jobs our crew loads our own trucks and hauls to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre at 106 Westhunt Drive in Carp, which sorts mixed construction and demolition debris for recycling and accepts commercial loads.
Bins sit on the lot or driveway. A bin on the street needs a City temporary encroachment permit, and the City asks for at least ten business days to process it.

Asbestos & permits
We don’t touch asbestos. That’s the point.
Some demolition companies will tell you they do it all. We do the demolition, and we make sure the steps before it happen in the right order, by the right people: survey first, licensed abatement, then us.
Read the asbestos and permit FAQ- Built before 1990? Ontario law puts the onus on the owner to identify designated substances before a contract is signed. That means a designated-substances survey.
- Survey finds asbestos? A licensed abatement contractor removes it, and you get a clearance letter.
- Utilities and permit. Gas, hydro, water and sewer disconnected where needed. Enbridge alone takes about 44 days, so it gets requested first.
- Then we demolish. No change orders for surprise asbestos, no stop-work orders, no crew exposed.
FAQ
Concrete & asphalt removal in Westboro: questions
Will breaking concrete affect my neighbour’s foundation?
Work close to foundations is done by hand and in small sections. We look at the neighbour’s side at the site visit and plan the method around it.
Is there room for a bin?
Usually not. Westboro concrete jobs load straight to our trucks. A street bin would need a City encroachment permit.
Do you remove interlock too?
Yes. Pavers can be lifted and set aside for reuse or hauled away, and the base removed if your landscaper wants it gone.
Do you work on infill teardowns in Westboro?
Yes. Narrow-lot teardowns for infill builders are the most common Westboro demolition, along with full guts of older homes being kept.
