In Carp

What the work looks like in Carp

Rural cleanouts are bigger than city ones: old machinery parts, fencing, scrap steel, lumber, tires and the contents of barns and drive sheds that have been filling up for decades. We sort out metal and tires for recycling and price the rest from your photos.

Estate and downsizing cleanouts on rural properties often cover the house and several outbuildings. We work through them building by building, set items aside for the family or for donation, and haul the rest to the Tomlinson facility on the Carp Road corridor for sorting.

Carp is a West Carleton village best known for the Carp Fair. More about Carp

Permits & paperwork

Before work starts in Carp

Junk removal needs no permit. If a bin has to go on the street rather than your driveway, the City requires a temporary encroachment permit, so we load to our trucks or keep bins on private property.

Barns and silos do not need a City demolition permit; garages, houses and most other buildings do (ottawa.ca). Along the Carp River, check with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority first.

Permit, utility and timeline FAQ

Disposal

Torn out. Hauled out.

Every job ends ready for the next trade. Here is where the debris goes.

Usable furniture is set aside for donation when you ask; metal, appliances and electronics go to recycling; and the rest goes to a licensed sorting facility. Paint, fuel, propane and chemicals go to the City’s household hazardous waste events instead.

On larger jobs, a roll-off bin from a licensed bin company sits on your property, and the bin company hauls it away and handles the tipping at its own facility.

On smaller jobs our crew loads our own trucks and hauls to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre at 106 Westhunt Drive in Carp, which sorts mixed construction and demolition debris for recycling and accepts commercial loads.

Mixed debris goes to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre on the Carp Road corridor, so hauls from Carp jobs are short. Steel siding and roofing go to scrap recycling.

What’s included

  • Price from your photos, confirmed on site before anything is lifted
  • All loading by our crew, from basement, attic, garage or back yard
  • Donation, recycling and sorting instead of straight-to-landfill
  • Sweep-up of the area we cleared

What goes elsewhere

  • Hazardous waste: paint, propane tanks, fuel, oil, chemicals and pesticides. These go to the City’s household hazardous waste depot
  • Anything suspected to contain asbestos, such as vermiculite insulation, old pipe wrap or 9×9 floor tiles
  • Medical waste and ammunition
